CATHERINE GREEN Artist

After starting my career in interior design my creative ambitions led me to study for a City and Guilds in stitched textiles and I was instantly hooked! Working as a full time artist is both fulfilling and challenging and no two days are ever the same. I constantly strive to develop and expand my work and have found the journey so far to be a very rewarding one.

My work incorporates print and stitch on beautifully rich fabrics such as velvet and satin to create vibrant, tactile pieces. I build up layers of dye, both printed and painted, before using devore techniques to remove the fabric surface in places to reveal the delicate silk beneath. I work intuitively from my first point of reference and enjoy allowing the design to change and evolve as the piece progresses through each process.

Recent developments to my practice have included working in local primary schools as part of the 'adopt an artist' scheme. The opportunity to take my work to a wider audience and share my skills with a very enthusiastic audience has been a valuable and enjoyable experience.
