BRYONY BURN, Artists Statement

“The initial designs for my vessels come from the studies of tropical fish. These include the tails, the fins and the way in which they move in the water. The colours and patterns of the vessels also originate from the markings of tropical fish. Much of my resource work has been done at Kew Gardens and the aquariums at London Zoo.
More recently I have been drawing inspiration from the textile collection at Bankfield Museum, Halifax, where I have been working as an artist in residence. I have had access to their archives and have become particularly inspired by their collection of domestic textiles from the 1940’s and 50’s.
All my work is slab built. It is a technique that suits me, as the building work is immediate. I make initial maquettes in card to help me achieve simple, controlled shapes for my vessels. These are then used as templates for the slabs of clay, which have been embossed with stamps and texture.
After being bisque fired each piece is hand painted to ensure individuality. The surface is built up with layers of slips and glazes. These are often scratched away to reveal the clay, or written onto to create depth and intrigue in the work. The text, if you can piece the words together, come from different sources including poetry, songs and snippets of conversation”.

UPS (United Parcel Service) is used for larger items within UK and abroad.

This service is usually TRACKABLE and requires a signature upon receipt of goods. (This service has proved 100% reliable for us.)

Insurance, if required, is charged at 1% of value.

Price example - £ 12.50 up to 30kg for delivery next working day within UK

Shipping charges are priced at COST. If special packaging is required (e.g. wooden boxes or picture crates), this can be discussed at time of purchase and is charged at a nominal rate.
